Jones Day Hiring Partner Tells All (About Getting An Offer)

What turns you off about a candidate during an interview? If I sense entitlement; if they think they're better than their colleagues or if they are too focused on themselves.”

DOJ Tax Division

Tax Division attorneys represent the United States in civil, criminal, and appellate tax matters in courts nationwide. Their mission is to enforce the nation’s tax laws fully, fairly, and consistently through both criminal and civil litigation. Accordingly, students looking to join the Division should have a passion for litigation and should consider taking litigation-focused classes, enrolling in clinical programs, and participating in mock trial, moot court, or other advocacy opportunities. While a focus or specialization in federal tax law is not required, they encourage students to take at least one federal tax course.

This year, applications can be submitted between July 26, 2010, and September 7, 2010. Applicants should allow plenty of time to complete the application, including the requisite essay portion. Application information will be posted at www.justice.gov/oarm.

The DOJ Tax Division believes that diversity adds value to the Division by attracting the most talented litigators possible; by developing a workforce with a vast array of talents, views, and experiences; and by enhancing their ability to represent and serve our country.

Find out more about the Tax Division at www.justice.gov/tax, and about the Justice Department generally, at www.justice.gov/oarm.
