1Ls!! Foley Diversity Scholarship Program - DEADLINE April 1!

In 1998, Foley created this program to raise awareness of diversity-related issues in the legal profession. A strong and effective diversity program is one of the highest priorities of the firm, and the Diversity Scholarship Program exemplifies Foley’s tangible commitment to the advancement of diverse law students and to achieving a more inclusive legal community. Through the program, Foley awards a $5,000 scholarship to a diverse law student at select law schools: Berkeley, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Michigan, Northwestern, UCLA, and Wisconsin.

Foley will award one scholarship in the amount of $5,000 to a first-year student at each law school noted above. To be eligible, an applicant must be either a) a member of one of the following government recognized racial/ethnic groups as defined by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance programs: American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black, or Hispanic or b) identify as LGBT. The scholarship will be paid either to the recipient or to the law school (at the recipient’s request) during the recipient’s spring semester and is to be applied to tuition, books, fees, and other expenses incident to law school attendance.

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, one of the largest law firms in the Midwest, along with international consumer product giant Procter & Gamble, will provide a unique clerking experience next summer. The chosen scholar will gain valuable experience in P&G's legal department for six weeks, followed by six weeks in Dinsmore & Shohl's main office. Both are located in Cincinnati, Ohio. DRI Law Student Diversity Scholarship

Deadline Extended Until May 14, 2010
This scholarship opportunity is open to all incoming second or third-year African American, Hispanic, Asian, Pan Asian, Native American and female law students*. Two scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each will be awarded to applicants who best demonstrate:

  • Academic excellence

  • Service to the profession

  • Service to the community

  • Service to the cause of diversity

Interested students must complete the 2010 Law Student Diversity Scholarship application, obtain three letters of recommendation as outlined in the Scholarship Requirements, and submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words based upon the following question:


Did Bell Atlantic Corp. v. Twombly and Ashcroft v. Iqbal really break new ground and sound a death knell for plaintiffs in federal civil litigation; and is the "anti-Twombly and Iqbal" Notice Pleading Restoration Act of 2009 introduced by Senator Specter to require the federal courts to follow traditional civil procedure rules for filing lawsuits really necessary?

George V. Powell Diversity Scholarship Program Sponsored by Lane Powell PC

The George V. Powell Diversity Scholar will be a 2011 summer associate in the Firm’s Seattle or Portland office and receive a $7,500.00 scholarship toward tuition and expenses during the student’s third year of law school. Candidates must be second year students in good standing at an ABA accredited law school. Candidates in four-year joint degree programs will be considered after their third year.

The firm is seeking candidates who will contribute meaningfully to the diversity of their legal community and who have a demonstrated desire to work, live, and eventually practice law in either Seattle or Portland. They will also consider each candidate’s academic achievements and record of leadership abilities, community service, and involvement in community activities.

Federal Communications Bar Association Foundation Robert E. Lee Scholarship and Internship Fund

International Association of Privacy Professionals Summit - Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted

The IAPP offers conference scholarships to outstanding students in the field of privacy. Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to attend the Summit, network with privacy professionals and be paired with a professional mentor. Baker Hostetler Paul D. White Scholarship (Orlando)

Available to minority law students. The scholarship award includes a paid summer associate clerkship and a cash award. The scholarship winner will receive $4,500 at the end of the 2010 summer clerkship and will receive $4,500 upon accepting an offer to return to work with Baker Hostetler in the summer of 2011, if applicable. Orlando office summer associates for 2010 will be paid $2,100 per week. The summer associate clerkship is a twelve-week program that will commence in May 2010. The ultimate goal of the program is to recruit outstanding individuals to work with us on a permanent
basis following law school.

Foley Minority Scholarship Program

Foley & Lardner awards a $5,000 scholarship to a first-year minority law student at select law schools: Berkeley, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Michigan, Northwestern, UCLA, and Wisconsin. Applications and additional information are available online. Applications must be received by January 19, 2010, and winners will be notified by March 5, 2010.

Finnegan Diversity Scholarship

The The Finnegan Diversity Scholarship provides financial support to qualified minority law students who have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing a career in IP law. The scholarship award of $15,000 may be applied to costs associated with normal tuition; usual fees (such as, but not limited to, student activity fees; law school or university fees, and administrative fees); and a patent bar review course.

The scholarship recipient will also accept an offer to join the firm as a 2011 summer associate in one of their five domestic offices (Atlanta, Cambridge, Palo Alto, Reston or Washington).

Students currently completing their first year full-time (or second year part-time) are invited to apply. The award will be applied to education costs the following academic year, and may be renewed for one additional year if the scholar accepts an associate offer upon successful completion of the Finnegan summer associate program and maintains a grade point average of 3.0 or better in law school.

Sarasota County Internship and Scholarship Opportunity

The Sarasota County Bar Association Diversity Scholarship Fund is intended to provide an opportunity for first through third-year law students of under-represented minority backgrounds (e.g. race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, physical disability, or socioeconomic background) who have an interest in practicing law in Sarasota County upon graduation, to obtain summer placement. At the conclusion of the student’s summer employment in a law firm or governmental agency, the law school the student attends will receive scholarship funds of at least $5,000.00 per student to be used by the student to continue his or her education. During employment, the student will be assigned an attorney mentor from the Sarasota County Bar Association and will attend a reception to welcome and honor the student and the employer with representatives from the Bar Association and Community Foundation. Applicants must be attending any accredited law school in the state of Florida and be able to devote at least 30 hours per week to employment in Sarasota County in the Summer.

AARP Summer Clerkship in D.C.


The AARP Foundation Litigation is now accepting applications from second-year law students, which includes a salary for summer 2009 clerkship in Washington, DC ($22 per hour for 12 weeks, approximately $9,240) and scholarship ($10,000), for The AARP Foundation Litigation Herbert Semmel Elder Law Fellowship. The SemmelFellow will work with public interest attorneys on major cases in state and federal court affecting the rights of olderAmericans. Following a three month summer clerkship at AFL, the Fellow will prepare a manuscript for a law reviewarticle on an elder issue to be submitted for publication by the end of the 2009-2010 academic year. 1L Scholarship Opportunity


Foley & Lardner created a minority scholarship in 1998 in an effort to raise awareness of diversity related issues in the legal profession. Through this scholarship program, Foley awards $5,000 to a first-year minority law student at eight selected law schools, including the University of Florida. The scholarship is to be applied to tuition, books, fees and other expenses incidental to law school attendance. Consideration is given to students with significant involvement in community activities, undergraduate records, and interest in and/or ties to a city in which Foley & Lardner practices.
