Sarasota Afternoon at the Courthouse

The Young Lawyers Division of the Sarasota County Bar Association invites all young lawyers and law students to attend a FREE program:

AN AFTERNOON AT THE COURTHOUSE
Friday, January 30th from 3-5:00 p.m.
Judge Lynn N. Silvertooth Judicial Center Courtroom 8B


The program will provide an in-depth educational opportunity for young lawyers to learn more about the 12th Judicial Circuit, courtroom techniques and procedures. A reception will follow at Horsefeathers Bar & Grill. Horsefeathers will offer drink specials and the YLD will provide light snacks. RSVP FOR EVENTS via fax to SCBA (941) 954-2301 by January 20th.

Orlando Networking Opportunity

Dean Robert Jerry will be speaking at the Orange County (Orlando) Bar Association's monthly luncheon on the topic of "Emerging Changes in Educating Law Students Today" so we anticipate a great Gator crowd. His presentation will be given on Thursday, January 29 between 11:30-1:00 in the Ballroom at the Church Street Station. Three students will be able to attend this event at no cost, with Assistant Dean Linda Calvert Hanson. If you are interested and can be available on Thursday, email careers@law.ufl.edu by Wednesday, January 21st at 5:00 p.m. indicating your class year, which CCS program(s) you have attended this fall, and your contact information. Selected students will be notified on January 22nd.

Career Showcase - UF Main Campus

UF Main Campus hosts its Spring Career Showcase on January 20th and 21st at the O'Connell Center. The Showcase hosts a number of employers that may be of interest to J.D. students, including accouting firms (Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG, PWC, Grant Thornton) and government (FDIC, FBI, IRS) This event is open to all UF students and alumni. No registration is required. Simply check out the employer list at http://www.crc.ufl.edu/students/careerfairs/ShowCase.aspx and come with resumes and your Gator1 card to meet employers.

Finnegan Diversity Scholarship

The Finnegan Diversity Scholarship provides financial support to qualified minority law students who have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing a career in IP law. The scholarship award of $15,000 may be applied to costs associated with normal tuition; usual fees; and a patent bar review course. The scholarship recipient will also accept an offer to join the firm as a summer associate in one of its domestic offices (Atlanta, Cambridge, Palo Alto, Reston or Washington). Students currently completing their first year full-time (or second year part-time) are invited to apply.

American Constitution Society Fellowship

The American Constitution Society (ACS), one of the nation's leading progressive legal organizations, seeks a talented, versatile and energetic recent law school graduate to serve as a Law Fellow. The Fellowship will begin in September 2009. The Fellow will serve as part of ACS's Programs staff, which is led by a group of experienced attorneys who coordinate and facilitate ACS's rapidly expanding output of innovative, highly relevant legal and public policy work. Summer Clerkship in Vietnam

The Vietnamese American Bar Association of Washington (VABAW) offers law students the opportunity to clerk at an international law firm in Vietnam for summer 2009. The Clerkship Recipient has the unique opportunity to learn about the local cultures and customs firsthand while living in Vietnam and to learn about international and comparative law by working at a major law firm. The RebLaw Conference is an annual, student-run conference that brings together practitioners, law students, and community advocates from around the country to discuss innovative, progressive approaches to law and social change.
