As of last week, there was still space available. The registration process is automated this year, so everyone can register using the annual convention form on the Bar's website. The Roundtable is listed under the special events section and there is no charge to attend. For students who do not yet have a Bar number, just have them print out the form and mail or fax it in to the address on the form.

Registration materials for SIPJF, the Southeastern Intellectual Property Job Fair, are now available.
The registration form to participate was emailed on the Career Information Hotline on 5/10 at 4pm.
To register, students must turn in the registration form with payment and/or proof of online payment to the Center for Career Development by Friday, May 21, 2010.

Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship Application Now Available

Deadline is June 18, 2010 .
Baker Donelson is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the individual differences among us are understood, respected, appreciated and recognized as sources of strength of the Firm. These qualities enrich the environment in which we work. With this in mind, Baker Donelson will again award three scholarships to diverse law students this year. Each recipient will be awarded $10,000 which will be paid during the student's third year of law school to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses. Additionally, recipients will be awarded a six-week, salaried 2L Summer Associate position in one of our following offices: Birmingham, AL; Atlanta, GA; Baton Rouge and New Orleans, LA; Jackson, MS; or Chattanooga, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, TN.

CAREER SEEKER REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS
For Law Students and Attorneys:
  • You can register for an account through the HNBA Symplicity system at https://law-hnb-csm.symplicity.com/students/. (Your year in school should be as of Fall 2010.)
    Once you have confirmed your email address, you'll receive a system-generated password allowing you to log in and an invoice for your participation. Registration must be received by August 6, 2010.

  • On August 9, we will send you detailed instructions on how to apply to the participating employers. All applications must be submitted the week of August 9-13. You are welcome to check back under HNBA Career Fair to see the growing list of participating employers, but once you are registered, you do not need to do anything further until August 9.

DRI Law Student Diversity Scholarship

Deadline Extended Until May 14, 2010
This scholarship opportunity is open to all incoming second or third-year African American, Hispanic, Asian, Pan Asian, Native American and female law students*. Two scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each will be awarded to applicants who best demonstrate:

  • Academic excellence

  • Service to the profession

  • Service to the community

  • Service to the cause of diversity

Interested students must complete the 2010 Law Student Diversity Scholarship application, obtain three letters of recommendation as outlined in the Scholarship Requirements, and submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words based upon the following question:


Did Bell Atlantic Corp. v. Twombly and Ashcroft v. Iqbal really break new ground and sound a death knell for plaintiffs in federal civil litigation; and is the "anti-Twombly and Iqbal" Notice Pleading Restoration Act of 2009 introduced by Senator Specter to require the federal courts to follow traditional civil procedure rules for filing lawsuits really necessary?

Cooley Diversity Fellowship Program

First-year law students who demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity in their communities are invited to apply for the Cooley Diversity Fellowship. Award recipients will receive a paid Summer Associate position and an award of up to $15,000 to assist with law school tuition. Awards will be announced in Fall 2010 with the Summer Associate position to start following the successful completion of the recipient's 2L year.
The eligibility/selection criteria and application process for the Program are as follows:

Eligibility
We welcome applications from all law students who meet these eligibility criteria:
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity in the community
  • Enrolled full-time in an ABA accredited law school with an anticipated graduation date of 2012 at the time of application
  • Not the recipient of a diversity award from another law firm paid between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2011
  • In order to receive the fellowship, an applicant must commit to joining the Firm's Summer Associate Program following the applicant's 2L year

Selection Criteria
Recipients will be selected based on consideration of the following factors:

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity
  • Excellent undergraduate and law school academic performance
  • Personal achievements
  • Leadership abilities
  • Community service
  • Commitment to joining Cooley's 2011 Summer Associate Program


Application Process
Applications must include:

  • A completed application form
  • A personal statement, no longer than 3 double-spaced pages, describing the applicant's demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity
  • Current resume
  • Law school transcript
  • Other graduate program transcript(s)
  • Undergraduate transcript
  • Three letters of recommendation from academic and/or professional references**
